The Education and Research Institute “Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogical Academy” at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University hosted a webinar on the topic of youth participation in public affairs and the shaping of modern society.
The event was led by specialists from the Centre for Innovative Educational Technologies – Oleksandr Prysiazhnyi and Kseniia Prysiazhna.
During the webinar, participants learnt about:
- the basic principles of how the state functions;
- the specific features of state-building and law-making processes.
The speakers explained in simple terms:
- how government bodies are formed;
- how decisions are made;
- what role young people can play in these processes.
Particular attention was paid to the practical aspect of the event. At the end of the webinar, a city council meeting was simulated, during which participants took on the role of councillors and took part in the decision-making process.
Also a session of a Verkhovna Rada committee was simulated, providing an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the processes involved in the consideration and preparation of draft legislation.
The event helped to foster a practical understanding of government processes and increased young people’s interest in civic engagement.
